Roadmap for today:
1. Check in and ensure you all have a book and journal prompts (See Mr. Wilson or Ms. Mohn in the library if you don't - They will guide you through this) 2. If you didn't go to the library with me (Dana) on Tuesday you will go with me today to do the lesson on "drawing the line on rights". If you've done this lesson you will stay in the class and finish the movie Erin Brocovich. Think about or write about the following questions:
What we ended up doing: We pretty much ended up following our roadmap today. Some folkx who weren't around on our double block "book speed dating" day went and saw Mr. Wilson in the library and got books. If you haven't got a book yet PLEASE go see Mr. Wilson or Ms. Mohn in the library and do so. Your 5 journal entries should be done by the end of February.

Road Map for today: 1. Library Day - Speed Dating with Social Justice books - Mr. Wilson is leading this activity today in the library! -Huge thanks to Ms. Mohn and Mr. Wilson for organizing all of these books 2. Second block we will introduce our journalling activities and give you some journal prompts. You will have this block to continue to read and explore books. What we did: Things went according to our road map today. Dana mentioned books being either windows or mirrors and to begin to think about this as you get into reading your book. For those who were absent, please see Mr. Wilson in the library this week and he will guide you to the books and through the process. As always, you can come and talk to Dana too.
Review of Monday:
I was away on Monday - Boooo to being sick! Road map for today: 1. Smiles and Frowns 2. Roadmap plan for tomorrow: Double block: We will be in the library doing a book 'speed dating' with Mr. Wilson leading the way 3. Half of the class to go with Dana to the library to work on "Drawing the Line" lesson on rights, while the other class finishes the movie - On Friday we will switch. What we did: WOW!!! I am so proud of my students. Today's lesson on Drawing the Line on rights went amazing! We were able to discuss some really hard issues and reflect on our own lives and how privileged we are.
Review of Friday's work: We watched this youtube video to start off the class on Friday We had such interesting and deep discussions about what we believe are factors that contribute to quality of life. We dug deeply into Emma and Jose's life and formed our own opinions, with supporting evidence, on who had the best quality of life. The class was split almost 50/50 between Emma/Jose and their quality of life. Those who believe Jose has a better quality of life used LOVE, BELONGING, GRATITUDE and PERSPECTIVE as the factors supporting his better quality of life. Those who chose Emma as having the better quality of life focused more on her physical safety and security as evidence of her good life. I've given written feedback to everyone who handed in their reflections and will hand these back on Monday. We amended our list of 'indicators of a good life' and tried to group some of these into categories. For example: love, belonging, happiness and well-being were grouped together. Plan for today: TURNS OUT I CAME DOWN WITH A CRAZY BUG AND I CURRENTLY DON'T HAVE MUCH OF A VOICE TODAY SO I CALLED IN A TOC FOR THE DAY - YOU WATCHED THE MOVIE ERIN BROKOVICH AND HAD SOME REFLECTION QUESTIONS TO PONDER AND DISCUSS:
