Students, parents, friends.
I wish that I had the answer to your questions. I really do. I know that information brings comfort and things are changing so quickly that the information sharing can't keep up. This is all so very uncomfortable. Breathe. Here's what I know: 1. Schools are committed to ensuring that will have opportunities to continue to learn. I don't know how, or what that looks like yet. 2. Being healthy and safe comes first. Period. 3. Love will not be cancelled. Ever. 4. I should know more details about school district plans by Friday afternoon and I will share them here when I know. Stay put, stay strong. More to come kidlets. Stay tuned. Friends, students, parents
We are seeing a new, and somewhat scary thing happening in our world. Big deep breath. COVID19 is a new virus, some people are very scared, that is a real and valid emotion to feel right now. You are safe, you are loved. Breathe. We've witnessed some hysteria in the media, maybe you've even experienced it first-hand. I'm sorry if that has happened to you. I urge you, during these trying times to connect to things and people that you love. Maybe that's napping, going for a walk in the sunshine, reading a book or doing something creative? Are you taking care of yourself today? Have you eaten, showered? If all you did today was survive, that's ok too. I love you. This will pass and wellness is around the corner for our world. If you want or need to connect with me you can find me on instagram (@padsbrushyanddana) or snapchat (@teachrecklessly) or you can text or call me at 778 848 5671 Brushy says hi. He loves you too! Love will not be cancelled Relationships will not be cancelled Love Dana Roadmap for today:
1. Let's check in with each other today - Things are happening in the world 2. Freedom Friday What we did: 1. Check in. I answered some of your question about how soap works and the lipid bilayer membrane. We talked a bit about how some of us are feeling disappointed that our travel plans are cancelled this spring break. This is real and present for us right now. Come see me in CHILL if you need to talk or check in throughout the day. 2. Freedom Friday: Tasks you could be working on: Book Journal Entries, Identity art, evidence journal HAVE A RESTFUL AND SAFE SPRING BREAK KIDLETS - I'LL MISS YOU Roadmap for today: MADD presenter, Tabby, was in today to discuss "Weed Out the Risk" and the risks associated with driving. Super important information for all drivers out there, especially with Spring Break right around the corner. What we did: See below for links to videos that the presenter, Tabby, shared with us.
Roadmap for today: 1. Dana is away this morning - Ms. Holmes will be in for me today 2.We've just begun our unit on Feminism, power and privilege. You will have a basic understanding of their own privilege and some groups in the world who historically have power over others. 3. Watch the youtube video below and discuss together 4. Todays lesson will be reading and discussing the 2 schools of thought on feminism: a. Those who think its antiquated/dead movement b. Those who think feminism is alive, well and still very needed. 5. Divide into 2 groups a. group 1 & 2 will be given the pro-feminism articles (What about feminism? and girls, feminism needs you) b. group 3 & 4 are given rebuttals of modern feminism (feminism has veered off... and & Me Too Femocracy) Have each group read the articles and create some summary notes - use the attached pdf template. 6. Once you finished their articles and summary notes create new groups. Each new group should have one member of the each of the old groups - this is called a jigsaw. You were then to share with each other, your summary of your articles. By the end of this each student will have: a. read and summarized their home group/old group article b. heard 3 other classmates summarize their articles What we did: Although I wasn't here, the reports that I got back from you were very positive. I would love to hear more of your thoughts on these articles.
Roadmap for today:
1. Check in with Smiles and Frowns 2. Head to the library again today and finish Unit 1 evidence journals What we did: 1. pretty much exactly what we set out to do. 2. 2 students did their unit 1 evidence journal conferences with me - THEY WERE AMAZING! Roadmap for today:
- Check in with each other to see how the movie (The Mask You Live In) settled with you -move our bodies to the library IT lab and look at our Unit 1 evidence journal What we did: -Some of you wrote and spoke so deeply about the movie we watched. For some of you this movie was difficult. For some of you it made you re-think some of the relationships, with family and friends, and how you have come to the place you are at within these relationships. We went to the library and you were tasked with downloading our Unit 1 evidence journal and getting it saved into your own Office 365 folder. We used the rest of the class to work on this and I am respectfully asking that these are completed this week. Roadmap for today: 1. Debrief privilege walk (What has come up for you from last day?) 2. Finish the movie (The mask you live in) and debrief 3. Flower Power - examining personal and group power 4. End of unit conference preparation
Roadmap for today:
1. Smiles and frowns 2. The paper basket activity 3. The privilege walk 4. Circle up What we did: We were able to check in using smiles and frowns today. It's so nice to see everyone sharing their accomplishments, things they are looking forward to and things that are weighing on them. I'm proud of my class for working so hard to build a respectful classroom culture. Afterwards we explored privilege using the PAPER BASKET ACTIVITY from the CCDI.ca website. This activity allowed us to examine privilege from an objective perspective as well as begin to analyze our own personal privilege. We then moved into doing our Privilege Walk to explore personal privilege. NOTE: this was a risky activity and needs to be approached with care and respect for all. After our privilege walk we de-briefed in a circle and talked about what stood out for us the most. |
